Moog · Analog polysynth · Pre-MIDI classics
The Memorymoog was Moog Music's big polysynth, built from 1982 to 1985, and it was the last instrument the company marketed before it went bankrupt in 1987. Moog had made a polyphonic keyboard before, the 1975 Polymoog, but that one used divide-down circuitry. The Memorymoog was the first Moog poly with its own oscillators and filter for every voice. You get six voices with three oscillators each, built on Curtis CEM3340 chips instead of the Minimoog's discrete circuits, a 24 dB low-pass filter per voice and 100 patch memories on 61 keys. Unison mode stacks all 18 oscillators on one note. Jan Hammer used one on the Miami Vice music, and Geoff Downes and Jon Lord played them too. The Memorymoog Plus came late in the run with factory MIDI and a basic sequencer. They broke down a lot even when new, and Sound On Sound reckoned ownership was only for the committed. The well-known fix is the LAMM upgrade from Lintronics, developed in 1992 with Big Briar. Buy one a known tech has looked after.
Tuning instability is the classic complaint, and Sound On Sound describes one that went badly flat when the room warmed up. Missing or stuck voices are the other common fault. On the Plus, the Z80 processor is reported to struggle with the added MIDI and sequencer work.
Buying guide
We'd pay $15,490 delivered for the US Memorymoog Plus titled Serviced with an Anvil case, or $9,725 delivered for tonehousestudios' Plus with MIDI and sequencer, then budget for a tech. About 13 are for sale and most ask $9,550–15,500 delivered; a stated service and a road case put a unit at the top of that band. Ask for a video of all six voices on one patch and a chord held after an hour warm, since drifting tuning and dead voices are the classic faults, and confirm double boxing or a case plus insurance before a keyboard this big ships. Treat music-outlet-shop's three generic all-caps listings from Germany with care, along with the zero-feedback seller and an auction that copies another seller's title.
$9,724.99est. delivered
The lowest confirmed delivered price outside the flagged listings, at $9,725, and it's titled a Plus with MIDI and sequencer. There's no service claim, so ask for a video of all six voices and a held chord after an hour warm.
Moog Memorymoog Plus - Vintage 6-Voice Analog Synth with MIDI & Sequencer
$15,490.00delivered
Titled Serviced, with an Anvil road case and free shipping, right at the top of the band. On a heavy, temperamental keyboard the case and a tech's attention are what you're paying for, so ask who did the service and whether it has the LAMM upgrade.

Our take
Bare title, and shipping isn't stated. Look for MIDI jacks on the back to tell a Plus from an original.
